PS3 Repair Guide – Which to Choose?

The beginning.

When this machine first came out there was uproar to get it. People paid almost $400 dollars for a brand new ps3. Suddenly you get a blinking red light or it just doesn’t turn on. Well here are some solutions for you to repair ps3 before paying Sony another $150.

Step one

That red light means the it is overheating. First, try to turn it off. Leave it off for an hour if possible. Then turn it back on. This should work if caught early.

If red light is still present.

If the light is still on pull out the hard drive. Overheating will cause this red light. This may sound easy but there are some screws that need to come loose. Let the hard drive cool off for about half an hour or so. Return it to its rightful place, your games should run smoothly.

Now, it’s not reading the discs.

When you are unable to read the disc it is most likely the laser. The laser is kind of hard to clean so again be very careful. Remove a couple of screws under the outer shell. Their may be a couple of layers to remove. The laser should be visible do not touch it. Gently wipe it clean with a Q-tip. Pour just a little alcohol on the Q-tip, try not to soak it.

Step four

If it doesn’t turn on at all, replace the power supply. Unless you heard a fuse blow out, it would have sounded like a loud pop. Do a Google search for a new power supply and install it. If it was the fuse take it out of the power and bring it to a store. Most likely they will be able to find the fuse.

Your PS3 should be working.

This is something you want to be very careful of. Remember try doing these only if it’s out of warranty because if not you will void it. Even still in warranty if your tech savvy no need to send it back to Sony. Try and repair ps3 yourself. This may save you time and money.
